"Believe You Can Fly!"

Your Passport  To Higher Education

1.   Are you a matriculant with a National Senior Certificate and have fallen through these cracks?

2.  Are you one of 82% matriculants who couldn’t enroll at any South African university or college?

3.  Maybe, you are one of the 93% of unemployed matriculants who are still job hunting?

4.  Or do you fall into this category who want to start a business, but don’t have start-up capital?

Every year, about 680 000 matriculants obtain their National Senior Certificates! Once the euphoric celebrations fade away, the reality of the real-world sinks in.

Based on research done by the Council of Higher Education (CHE) in 2013, Dr. André van Zyl, director of the Academic Development Centre at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), stated: “We have space in the higher education sector for approximately 18% of matrics, then the system is full.”

Quest Recruitment Agency in the Western Cape estimates that only 7% of matriculants will enter the job market. Professor Rensburg, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg, made a daring statement; he said: “The National Senior Certificate (NSC) has become less valuable during the past decade! Click here to watch a video of his statement.

According to Stats SA, “Unemployed or underemployed youth are less able to contribute effectively to national development and have fewer opportunities to exercise their rights as citizens. They have less to spend as consumers, less to invest as savers and often have no “voice” to bring about change in their lives and communities.”

The Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) was founded to empower matriculants with basic leadership skills. We designed the ELI Personal Development Course to bridge the educational gap between grade twelve and higher education; prepare ELI grads for the job market and assist young entrepreneurs.

Although our target market is youth aged 16 to 35 years; the course content attracted applicants beyond our target market. Housewives, ministers of religion, university drop-out students, management consultants and even an industrial psychologist and an attorney attended our sessions.

They all had one thing in common: the intrinsic desire to reshape their self-esteem, communicate more effectively on an emotional and mental level, set achievable goals, release more hidden potential, speak with confidence in public and market themselves successfully as unique individuals!

It’s an idea that has been percolating for some time and after much research last year; we have launched the ELI Business Partners Initiative this year! It’s our joy to announce that we have partnered with relevant stakeholders who would provide a bouquet of services and business opportunities at our next workshop. You must register NOW to benefit from this exciting partnership! Please click here to read more.

The Emerging Leaders Institute will provide the mental training and preparation, while some of our partners will aid provide business advice, draw up a business plan, marketing plans, do feasibility studies, help design marketing materials such as business cards, brochures, banners, website development, human resource assistance, financial management systems and mentorship.
